Dr Bob Kirk - B.A., M.A.(hons), Ph.D.

Professor Bob Kirk is one of the most experienced and respected academic and applied coastal geomorphologists in New Zealand and has international standing.  He is presently the Emeritus Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Canterbury. In the 1970s the was instrumental in forming the university’s Coastal Research Group. For several years Bob was Assistant Vice Chancellor. 

In 2004 and 2007 Bob was elected onto the Canterbury Regional Council (Environment Canterbury) where he chairs the Finance and Audit Committee and is on several others including the Coasts/Navigation and Regional Planning Committee.

For several years Bob has been a principal consultant with Land and Water Studies International Ltd.

His academic and applied research covers processes and management of lake shores and ocean coasts. Of particular interest are shore platforms and mixed sand and gravel beach systems and lagoons.

He has published more than 60 papers written 140 technical reports.
